An article going over some of the reasons why Vail Unified School District is such a effective and comfortable place for a kid’s educational growth

Why Vail Unified School District?

In 1903, Vail Unified School District began as a single-room schoolhouse but over a century later this school district has distinguished itself as a lighthouse district within Arizona and even the nation. The school district has accumulated many academic awards including the Golden Bell Promise Award, was awarded the Magna Award three times, and contains schools that have been awarded the Blue Ribbon reward. The most recent product of this district’s innovation comes with the creation of the “Beyond Textbooks” instructional program which has garnered national attention and is currently being implemented by 118 partners across multiple states.

Now, you may be asking “What is this? What is this Beyond Textbooks program?”

And not to worry, this program isn’t some call to toss all textbooks in the trash but is actually incredible and has yielded some impressive results both within and out of studies. This program is a system of teaching that heavily relies on the cooperation of educational departments & the accumulation and intelligible sharing of resources and information. The capstone for this framework of cooperative accumulation is the electronic delivery system, aptly named Beyond Textbooks. This delivery system is a web tool used to collect and share information (curriculum calendars, core resources, etc.) and be able to support and receive support from peers from all over the nation that are following the same curriculum.

This program was researched thoroughly for effectiveness and having a correlation between a rise in test scores and the implementation of the Beyond Textbooks program. Outside of all of the numbers and charts that the studies provide, schools within the district have proven the program’s effectiveness through action with numerous schools collecting awards for excellence. If you have a moment, I’d like to showcase a couple of these incredible schools!

Empire High School:

Empire High School

The school first opened its doors in 2005 and was the first school in not only Arizona but the whole nation to attempt a '“one-to-one laptop, textbook free” system. However, this decision wasn’t based on a missive around technology but rather to support their mission of higher levels of engagement between teacher and student. This mission of theirs is also carried out through a smaller student population, enabling teachers to focus on each student more closely. It’s this approach that has landed them to be #7 on the “Best Schools in Tucson” ranking!

Mesquite Elementary School:

This is a prime example of the Vail Unified School District’s dedication to education. This school is the recipient of many awards for excellence. One of these awards being the Blue Ribbon award that Mesquite won both in 2014 and 2021. On top of that, Mesquite has been rated an “A+” school since 2010.

Mesquite elementary always has put the education of their students first, offering a variety of ways to enrich the student’s learning experience. From their OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program to their Chinese Immersion Program, it’s clear that your child will have a diverse and unique learning experience that will set them up for their futures as students.

After all of this reading, I hope that we both can agree that the Vail Unified School district is an incredible collection of individuals who want the best when it comes to your children’s education. With all of these incredible schools and the thriving community that surrounds them, it’d be no surprise if the phones for real estate agencies to begin ringing like there’s no tomorrow!
